“111”
“111” is large scale work meant as an accompaniment to Red Mass’ previous album, A Hopeless Noise. Said work features 111 songs separated in 11 volumes released on labels all over the world (Italy, Greece, France, Ukraine, USA, Canada). Each volume is an album in itself and will first be released in limited quantity on a physical format (EP, tape, CD, vinyl postcard). All volumes will eventually be released digitally as the complete work. Each of the 11 volumes represents one type of personality and has its own artwork, themes and songs executed in one particular genre. The genres tackled are folk, garage punk, black noise, synth based compositions and industrial music.
In Red Mass’ previous release, A Hopeless Noise, the main protagonist suffers from a multiple personality disorder. “111” explores the idea put forth by author Grant Morrison that instead of a single personality complex, we should adhere to a multiple personality complex allowing us to relate more to others, adapt more easily and possibly even avoid a large scale societal psychosis. “111” features mostly new material recorded over the last 12 years.
Labels: Spacecase (USA), Cuchabata (Canada), Goodbye Boozy (Italy), Wallride (USA), Kizmiaz (France), No Coast (USA), Bent Window (Canada), Vibrio Cholerae Records (Ukraine), Dystatik (Greece)
This second installment of the series sees Red Mass play electro / post-punk songs with themes pertaining to nihilism and discouragement. For Volume 2, the group has collaborated with Montreal artist Anna Arrobas. The first single from the album, “Call me Shadow” is an ode to Wax Trax! Records, Depeche Mode and the Lurkers. Released on limited edition cassette on Spacecase (USA).

About Red Mass
Created by Roy Vucino as part of the “Free Creative Enterprise” TA DA arts collective, Red Mass has become a gathering of musicians, agent provocateurs and artists, from around the globe. Punk music incorporating techniques of automatic creation and elements of chaos magic. In order to free oneself from a conditioned view of reality, the group abandons the comfort of familiarity, and embraces the confusion of our world. Be godlike by creating worlds, be angelic by soaring above the ruins and be like a demon by seeking the immoral core of magical experiment. The means are the end in order to create freely, nothing is sacred in the sweet blasphemy of art. We welcome you to the Red Mass. The band has amassed more than 100 participating artists and musicians in its ranks including Mike Watt, Evan Dando, Rick Froberg (Hot Snakes/Drive Like Jehu), King Khan, Paul Jacobs and producer/musician Martin Bisi as well as members of Fly Pan Am, Duchess Says and Godspeed You! Black Emperor, among others. Collaborations with some of our idols, our friends, our family members and with strangers who simply wanna create something subversive.
